The FRIENDS OF TEIA, a 501 (c)(3) tax exempt charitable organization, was founded in 2000. It is dedicated to offering “camperships” to island children so they have the opportunity to participate in TEIA’s summer educational programs of sailing, tennis and kids camp. Through the generosity of Peak Islanders, TEIA members and others, the FRIENDS have provided annual “camperships” to scores of island children who enjoy learning new skills and making new friends.
Last summer we enrolled 33 children and FRIENDS OF TEIA “camperships” funded $9,473.00 worth of fees and memberships to TEIA.
Our 2009 Fall Appeal saw an increase in funding over 2008 and we are so appreciative of the 66 donors who gave $12,500. With this funding we shall be able to grant all the applications we receive for “camperships ” in 2010.
FRIENDS will continue to sponsor the wine and cheese reception for the “Color of Peaks Art Show” and provide the music combo. We depend on food donations from one and all to make this the huge success it has been in the past. This event and our annual fall appeal are our only means of raising funds to sustain our goals.
Look for updates to programs and information on the TEIA website under “FRIENDS”, the weekly TEIA news email or in the STAR. Feel free to contact Stephanie at sealights99@aol.com for any further information or volunteering. We count on you and your gifts, as we could not provide these opportunities with YOU.
