10 am-1 pm CARDBOARD BOAT REGATTA Get nautical at the Second Annual Cardboard Boat Regatta open to all Peaks Islanders! Things will be different this year: rather than waiting for the boats to sink – which took forever – this will be a RACE TO THE FINISH! We are allowing a maximum of 18 teams/families to build boats out of nothing more than cardboard and a single roll of duct tape, then paddle them out into Diamond Pass, turn the marker buoy and head for home! We will schedule a two hour build session (limited materials will be provided but please bring your own mat knives, pencils, markers, rulers and straight edges if you can) at TEIA the day of the race, but you can also build your watercraft in advance and bring it to the race. For this reason, ADVANCE REGISTRATION IS ESSENTIAL!
FINE PRINT: Each boat must be able to hold one person (in an approved life jacket AND something resembling a paddle) from their team. No other materials or additional flotation devices will be permitted. A single 4 x 8 foot sheet of cardboard and roll of duct tape will be provided – additional cardboard is allowed, so get your banana boxes early to avoid disappointment. No Glue Guns! Feel free to gussy up your fine watercraft as extra points will be given for design, theme, and pure spectacle. $25.00 fee per team. Remember the 18 team maximum, so register early with Scott Kelley
Rain Date – August 18th
