FRIDAY NIGHT SOCIAL GATHERING ON THE PORCH: Fridays beginning June 7 from 6 PM to 8 PM

There is no better place than the porch of TEIA each Friday evening to watch the sky magically glow in a spectrum of pastel colors as the sun goes down and sets over the Diamonds.

Porch gatherings are BYOB and an appetizer to share with fellow TEIA members and their house guests or neighbors interested in learning more about TEIA.

There will be no porch gathering on August 2. Following the August 9 porch gathering, we will host a trivia night starting at 7:30 p.m.

RC BOAT DEMO Friday, June 21 at 6:00pm Porch Gathering

At the Porch Gathering on Friday June 21st, Chris Broadhurst will be giving a demo of his remote controlled sailboat.

The sailboat is a replica of a Laser but is 1/4 size at 39 inches/1 meter in length. It has only one sail and a rudder. The remote control manages these 2 functions in order to propel the boat through the water. There is no other form of propulsion so winning a race depends on the sailing skills of the person operating the remote. Chris has belonged to two other clubs and has raced competitively for many years.

Joins us and check out this unusual and family-friendly sport!

BEATLES DANCE! Saturday, June 22 from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.

Their performance is not to be missed! Tickets can be reserved in advance or can be purchased at the door for $20 per member and $25 per non-member. BYOB, appetizers, and snacks welcomed!

TEIA WATER SAFETY TALK WITH TOM BERGH: Friday, July 5 at 6pm (followed by Porch Gathering at 7pm)

Please join us at TEIA for a practical discussion on wisely and safely accessing our unique Casco Bay waters and islands. Tom Bergh, Registered Maine Guide and owner of Maine Island Kayak Co, Peaks Island since 1986, will layout how you might prepare and plan for going to sea in your little boat. Let’s think like a Captain of our vessel, be clear of the effects of our 10’ tides and their currents, and the power of ocean swells. Let’s understand the weather exposures of fog, wind and thunderstorms so we can better reach our on-water goals for that day. Bring your questions and see you ‘On The Porch’.

PAELLA DINNER: Sunday, July 21 at 6:00 pm

Tonight’s main course is Paella, a dish originating from Spain. The word Paella is derived from the Catalan word for frying pan, and the unique, large flat pan is the centerpiece for the preparation.   Paella is built on a foundation of rice, with locally sourced proteins typically added to the dish. Following this tradition, tonight’s paella will include seafood of various shellfish and white fish.  Additionally, sausage and chicken will be used to augment the dish. Paella is seasoned with saffron and smoked paprika in a sofrito of tomatoes, onions, peppers and garlic.  Prepared over a wood fire, the cooking process offers time for celebration and raillery, all part of paella’s rustic appeal. There will be brief instructions and recipes on preparing the Paella dish as well as a delicious Paella Dinner with crusty bread and dessert.  $30/$35  BYOB. Limited to 38  participants.

THE ARTIST’S SALON: Sundays from 7 PM to 9 PM

On Sunday nights in June & July, Liz Rollins will be hosting a salon-style gathering from 7-9pm in the Garman Lounge at TEIA. Artists of all sorts are encouraged to share their original works in progress, accept and offer constructive critique, read some favorite poetry or plays, sing or play music, share drawings, paintings or other media, bring ideas and participate in lively philosophical discussions, share wine and homemade delights and watch the sunset. Artistic, comfortable and Bohemian dress encouraged. Free, welcoming, and open to all. Come every Sunday, or come when you can. If we find we have gathered much art to share by the end of July, we will prepare a casual presentation of music, artwork, and words that is open to the public on July 28th – optional. “True artists” are not defined by their media or talents, but by the unique and beautiful way they approach life and the path they choose in fresh snow.  Join us.

Learn more about our island’s fascinating rewilding, from a moose sighting on the beach adjacent to TEIA, to the controversial state marksman program of 2000 when over 200 deer were removed from the island in body bags (the
meat was donated to the Hunters for the Hungry program). If you have a story of an unusual animal sighting on Peaks or just a tall tale, come and share your experience.

Months before the start of the Pacific War in 1941, John Reeves – his career and marriage failing – is posted as British consul to the tiny Portuguese colony of Macao in southern China. The Japanese soon declare war on the West with their attacks on Pearl Harbor and Hong Kong. But because Portugal is neutral, Macao is left alone and becomes a tiny island of neutrality, an Asian Casablanca surrounded by Japanese- occupied China. Reeves, a lonely and awkward man, finds himself the only senior representative of the Allies within a radius of thousands of miles. He runs spy rings, collects intelligence, smuggles people to freedom, takes care of refugees and is threatened with assassination – and The Good War of Consul Reeves tells his story.
