“PTSD and First Responders: The response and lessons learned at the Sandy Hook Elementary School mass murder in Newtown, Connecticut on December 14, 2012”
Danny R. Stebbins retired in 2014 as Colonel of the Connecticut State Police. Commanding over 1000 troopers and 500 support staff, he also served as Deputy Commissioner of Connecticut’s Department of Emergency Services and Public Protection. He is a nationally recognized expert in community policing, gang investigations, and rural policing. Colonel Stebbins was the on-scene commander of both the Connecticut Lottery shootings in 1998, and the Sandy Hook Elementary School mass murder in 2012.
We are familiar with the diagnosis of PTSD as it pertains to those who have returned from war. First responders also face traumatic situations and our speaker has had firsthand experience with a devastating disaster. He is an expert on this disorder and speaks widely about it to those who are involved professionally with such situations. We are privileged to have him share his knowledge with us, a lay audience.
